Manager, Patient Accounting

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Manager, Patient Accounting is directly responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, managing and coordinating for the assigned area of Claims Processing, Support Services, Collections or Customer Service, BWC, Medicaid, Medicaid HMOs, Commercial, and 1500 billing receivable. The position is responsible for the timely collection of insurance collection of these payers.
Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Health Administration or other applicable field.
- Minimum of five years experience in health care in a supervisory role.
- Effective Communication Skills
- Demonstrates the ability to manage accounts receivable and manage staff in a multi-facility central business office with knowledge of the revenue cycle including billing, follow-up, and collections.
- Knowledge of laws governing admitting, billing and credit and collections.
- Demonstrates knowledge to effectively utilize multi-facility systems in the management of accounts receivable.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively work with a diverse group of people which includes physicians, clinicians, office managers, administrators, third-party payers, and associates.
- Demonstrates a sense of maturity that enables the positive and effective handling of people and situations.
- Capable of changing and accepting new situations and ideas.
- Capable of confronting and dealing with problems that may not have standard solutions.
- Demonstrates the ability to lead people, set goals and coach staff in the achievement of goals.

- Proficient in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Collect 97% or greater of the net revenue for assigned parts of the receivable.
- Achieve monthly cash goal established for assigned part of the receivable.
- Maintain the aging at greater than 90 days to 15% or less of the receivable.
- Maintain turnaround for partial/payer rejections and correspondence within 5 business days 98% of the time.
- Analyzes denial/rejection trends and implements strategic plan to reduce high volume preventable errors.
- Identifies, researches, recommends and solves problems and issues with getting account paid timely.
- Monitors accurate patient account balances, insurance balances, and patient followup schedules.
- Manages the accurate and timely billing of BWC accounts.
- Manages the timely collection of insurance accounts receivable, including BWC, Medicaid, Medicaid HMO, Medicaid out of state, Commercial, law enforcement claims and reference lab.
- Negotiates prompt pay discounts with commercial insurance companies.

Fulton County Health Center, an acute care and Critical Access Hospital, located in Northwest Ohio is searching for a Manager of Patient Access. The Manager monitors the administrative, financial and managerial functions relative to the effective operation of Patient Access Department, including personnel, budget, equipment management, policies and procedures, and strategic planning activities. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance (CFO) for the hospital.
The essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Directs and manages daily operations of Patient Access Department
- Oversees orientation and continuing education for all staff involved in registration activities
- Acts as liaison between Director of Finance, Physician Offices, Information Systems, HIM, Patient Accounts and all departments of the hospital to coordinate services provided by Patient Access.
- Manages costs of the Department
- Provides leadership through effective guidance, feedback and delegation.
- Ensures and advocates excellence in customer service values.
- Manages personnel of the Department
Minimum qualifications are as follows:
Bachelor’s degree in business management preferred and a minimum of five years Patient Access management/supervision experience.
